Contra a abstracção. Obras da Coleção da Caixa Geral de Depósitos – Culturgest [Against abstraction. Works in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos – Culturgest Collection]
15 march — 2 june 2019
Curator: Sandra Vieira Jürgens
Organized with artworks from the Caixa Geral de Depósitos Collection, the exhibition Contra a Abstração examines one the main concepts in art history: abstraction. Focusing on its multiple (often contradictory) models, it features seminal references from European geometric abstractionism as well as the works of artists that fostered the fusion of different aesthetics and cultures demonstrating that abstraction has always been a space for sharing in different contexts and periods. Contra a Abstração seeks to represent the reality of artistic expressions of Modernism, highlighting the interest in identitary manifestations of popular culture, as well as in the ludic, functional, collective and communal characteristics of art.
Artists: Álvaro Lapa, Ana Hatherly, Ana Jotta, Ana Maria Tavares, Ana Miranda Rodrigues, ngela Ferreira, ngelo de Sousa, António Ole, António Palolo, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos, Bruno Pacheco, Cruzeiro Seixas, Dick Arentz, Domingos Pinho, Edgard de Souza, Eduardo Batarda, Ernesto de Sousa, Espiga Pinto, Fernanda Fragateiro, Fernando Calhau, Francisco Rocha, Gerardo Burmester, Godfrey Frankel, Isabel Pons, Jac Leirner, Joana Rêgo, João Paulo Feliciano, Joaquim Bravo, Joaquim Rodrigo, Jorge Pinheiro, José Loureiro, José M.
