Based on works in the Tregar\/Saint Silvestre Collection the exhibition appropriates the title of the first edition of Francis Picabia\u2019s book of poetry and prose I\u2019m a Beautiful Monster (1940). In the words of curator Antonia Gaeta, I\u2019m a Beautiful Monster<\/em> sets aside \u2018the finite, determined, measured, balanced form, order, harmony\u2019, to bring in unbalance, incoherence and disproportion. \u2018The works in the Treger\/Saint Silvestre Collection accentuate the relationship and contradiction between beauty and monstrosity in which baroque, primitivism, the anecdotal, the ornamental, the oneiric, the inexistence of margins, the relief, the structure, the multiplicity that is unity, the absurd, the rationalization, the humour and the references illustrate an in depth research that is free from the will of the epoch\u2019s taste and barely interested in conforming to it\u2019 [Antonia Gaeta] [Antonia Gaeta]<\/p>\n"},{"acf_fc_layout":"flx_lyt__text_small","flx_lyt__text_small":"

Antonia Gaeta (It\u00e1lia, 1978) \u00e9 Licenciada em Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o dos Bens Culturais pela Universidade de Bolonha. Mestre em Estudos Curatoriais pela Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa e Doutorada em Arte Contempor\u00e2nea no Col\u00e9gio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra. Desenvolveu projetos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e exposi\u00e7\u00e3o com diversas institui\u00e7\u00f5es art\u00edsticas em Portugal e no estrangeiro e tem textos publicados em cat\u00e1logos de arte, revistas especializadas e programas de exposi\u00e7\u00f5es. Foi coordenadora executiva das representa\u00e7\u00f5es oficiais portuguesas nas Bienais de Arte de Veneza (edi\u00e7\u00f5es 2009 e 2011) e de S\u00e3o Paulo (edi\u00e7\u00f5es 2008 e 2010) para a Dire\u00e7\u00e3o-Geral das Artes. Based on works in the Tregar\/Saint Silvestre Collection the exhibition appropriates the title of the first edition of Francis Picabia\u2019s book of poetry and prose I\u2019m a Beautiful Monster (1940). Antonia Gaeta (It\u00e1lia, 1978) \u00e9 Licenciada em Conserva\u00e7\u00e3o dos Bens Culturais pela Universidade de Bolonha. Mestre em Estudos Curatoriais pela Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa e Doutorada em Arte Contempor\u00e2nea no Col\u00e9gio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra. Desenvolveu projetos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e exposi\u00e7\u00e3o com diversas institui\u00e7\u00f5es art\u00edsticas em Portugal e no estrangeiro e tem textos publicados em cat\u00e1logos de arte, revistas especializadas e programas de exposi\u00e7\u00f5es. Foi coordenadora executiva das representa\u00e7\u00f5es oficiais portuguesas nas Bienais de Arte de Veneza (edi\u00e7\u00f5es 2009 e 2011) e de S\u00e3o Paulo (edi\u00e7\u00f5es 2008 e 2010) para a Dire\u00e7\u00e3o-Geral das Artes.
