Silvestre Pestana: Um artista de contraciclos [Silvestre Pestana: A counter-cyclical artist]
16 december 2017 — 15 may 2018
Silvestre Pestana (1949, Funchal, Madeira) is one of the most radical figures in Portuguese contemporary art. A poet, visual artist and performer, the artist has created an irreducibly singular artistic practice since the late 1960s in a wide range of media. The first large-scale presentation of his work took place at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in 2016.
Composed of works that have been recently incorporated in the Serralves Collection and pieces from the artist’s own collection, the current exhibition highlights his pioneering use of drawing, collage, photography, sculpture, installation, video and performance in analysing the relationships between society, art and technology.
Production: the Serralves Foundation – Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto
Silvestre Pestana: Um artista de contraciclos is part of an exhibition programme of artworks in the Serralves Collection.
