Paradoxos da Torre de Marfim: A pintura e o pictórico na Coleção Norlinda e José Lima [Paradoxes of the Ivory Tower: painting and the pictorial in the Norlinda and José Lima Collection]
14 may — 25 september 2016
Curator: David Barro
According to the curator, Paradoxos da Torre de Marfim: A pintura e o pictórico na Coleção Norlinda e José Limaseeks to explore the boundaries of painting in a selection of artworks from the collection: ‘What do we call painting today? There are so many styles, legacies, artists and media that it has become very difficult to define a particular aspect of this question. Today, painting is an idea, a way of thinking about painting itself in its possibility to apprehend the world. Therefore, all that is said or done about painting is in itself painting as manifestation of an attitude, a stance that implies a constant (re)thinking by artists about their place. Anything that may aid in creating an image can be a painting, because the time of painting always implies a new definition and the history of art is the history of painting. For this reason, we have a way of seeing life in pictorial terms and assume that painting is no longer a technique, but a tradition’. [David Barro] [David Barro]
