Oliva Rewind Fine Arts
19 october 2013 — 31 march 2014
Curator: Victor Costa
Oliva Rewind Fine Arts is one of the inaugural exhibitions of the Núcleo de Arte da Oliva. With this collective presentation, Victor Costa sought to mark the transformation of an old factory into an artistic space.
‘The reconversion of Oliva’s zone 2, an industrial space that is both emblematic in São João da Madeira and singular in terms of modernist legacy, is a turning point, a change in the orientation and paradigm of the factory’s productive function. At the root of this new function — the Oliva Creative Factory — lies a double condition: on the one hand, the decades old collective memory as sedimented in the building, the manufactured objects, the production processes and the narrative traces accumulated in the factory’s archives; on the other, the will to anticipate a future that is aware of the challenge to value creative thinking and the need to bring art and life increasingly closer in their multiple aspects. The project Oliva Rewind Fine Arts unfolds in the open space between these two times: an invitation for several artists and creators to accompany the factory’s transformation project and reflect on its historical, social and urban condition, while simultaneously re-inscribing Oliva’s memory into new networks of experimentation and meaning. In its multiple phases, Oliva Rewind Fine Arts is a plural testimony in permanent construction of the process leading to the factory’s reconversion, the mapping of its spaces and archives and the reinvention of its narratives’.
