Limiar da Vida. Coleção Norlinda e José Lima [The Edge of Life. Norlinda and José Lima Collection]
16 september 2017 — 1 april 2018
Curator: Pedro Lapa
“This exhibition gathers works from the Norlinda and José Lima Collection, looking at art as a diversity of modes of relation to life. These are grouped according to six themes, from the most simple and fragmented perceptions of the body to the construction of forms and enigmas about the world we inhabit. Because the exhibition develops circularly and can be experienced from both directions, these themes do not follow a progressive order. If life stands before any artistic forms, the limit to which they tend does not lie in a specific quality, a particular meaning or a general synthesis of the former. The ultimate limit is the matter of life as potency for any representation. All the artistic forms gathered here are conjectures and attempts to configure that very matter, which emerges before any configuration and which we call life, whose entirety is not attainable by any work. The confrontation with the impossibility of knowing life absolutely is perhaps where the artistic experience sheds some light on our mode of dwelling, so that life is not the prime cause of art but its edge.” [Pedro Lapa] [Pedro Lapa]
